About 2 Blocks of Art
An art walk along 6th Street from Market to Howard, 2 Blocks of Art highlights an area bustling with creative energy. While unknown to some as anything but gritty, this stretch is blossoming in what the San Francisco Chronicle calls “a quiet renaissance.” The article states life along this corridor reveals a welcoming community, new businesses alongside old time favorites, and a place where “most people down there just want a smile and a ‘good morning.’ Even the dogs need a smile and a ‘good morning.’”
Other recent press calls out the addition of new 6th Street spots such as The Argentum Project, Frena Bakery, Pentacle Coffee, the Rumpus Room and Thrasher Magazine's 66 6th store that is: "skateboard culture's hot spot on Sixth Street."
The 2 Blocks of Art event specifically addresses 4 key areas:
1) advance the work of local artists
2) promote neighborhood small businesses
3) galvanize the arts community and help reinforce Mid Market as an arts and cultural destination
4) elevate civic pride in residents and area stakeholders
Additionally, the event helps beautify and activate vacant storefronts, and exposes residents and visitors to neighborhood resources such as youth programs and job training centers.
